About Caren:

Being captivated by a good story is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’s one of the reasons why Caren Burmeister loves being a storyteller.

A newspaper journalist for 21 years, Caren covered breaking news, legal affairs, government and many other subjects. Most of all, she treasured the features and in-depth pieces that explored social trends and universal truths about human nature.

When she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1989 from the University of Miami, Caren had no idea the industry would nearly collapse in two decades. She retired in 2010, as mass layoffs crippled newsrooms across the country. Journalism had changed and so had she.

But her deepest desire had not. With time to explore new pursuits, she began a journey grounded in personal faith, yoga and self-reflection to discover what it was in her that could bring out the best in others.

In the end, she came back to the beginning: Caren loves to write inspiring stories that give meaning and purpose to life and to help other people write theirs.

Curious by nature, and persistent by practice, Caren finds precious insights through careful research and interviews. She has an ear for narratives that captivate readers and an intuitive understanding of the structure, flow and details that make a story sing.

In addition, she brings a collaborative style to coaching writers, suggesting revisions that clarify and strengthen the story while retaining the author’s voice. Writers have appreciated Caren’s skills as she collaborated with them, editing several fiction and nonfiction books, including The Maju Mindset, Mercy’s Way, Making the Platinum Rule, and Circle the Center: Labyrinths in Florida.

Caren now writes and edits for Biography Masters and provides editorial services for print and online clients through her business, Caren Tells Your Story.
